4 Stars in Central London for Under $200!

When I received a request from LizEllen for a recommendation on a 4 to 5 star hotel for $150/night, I really didn’t think we’d have much luck especially since dates for her stay are relatively soon – which means there is a possibility of less supply. $150.00 is the equivalent to 0.608679774 British pounds (Sept. 15, 2009) and considering the fact that you pretty much pay in pounds for the equivalent in dollars, I thought there’d be no way I’d find a great place for GBP 91.30. I’m glad to say I was wrong. For just a wee bit more, you can stay in a beautiful, conveniently located 4-star hotel in London – even booking almost last minute! Here is what we came up with:

1. Grand Plaza Hyde Park
   4 Stars
   Decor: Modern
   Address: 42 Princes Square W2 4NL/just north of Bayswater Road
   Nearest Tube: Bayswater
   Price 5 Nights: $850.75 ($170/night) per room Including Taxes and Fees
   Room Type: Executive Studio with Double Bed

   Although not in Kensington or Notting Hill, Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments is not far and still is close to everything in London. The hotel is actually a serviced apartment residence with a hotel flare.

   Guestrooms at Grand Plaza Serviced Apartments offer DVD players, satellite tv, kitchenettes with refridgerators, microwaves and even dishwashers. Full high-speed internet with a desk and direct-dial phone.
   Bathrooms are showers and tubs with hairdryers. All guestrooms are non-smoking.

   The hotel is very chic and modern with vessel sinks in the bathrooms, high-end cabinetry, and fresh-clean lines. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is reportedly very friendly and helpful.

   

2. Corus Hyde Park

4. Gainsborough Hotel

   Room Type: Large Double

   Located in fabulous South Kensington, this is a particularly nice find for the price. Beautiful and classic, the Gainsborough offers every amenity you could want surrounded in a rich traditional English Country Hotel feel. You’re close to everything here with the Sloane Square tube stop only a block away. Talk about a great location!

   There is a bar on site and the staff are reviewed as helpful – just keep in mind that unless booking a superior room or suite, the rooms tend to be a bit small. But the overall reviews on this hotel are very good.
