If you’re looking for a great hotel in Mayfair London you’ve come to the right place.  We’re going to tell you about a fantastic hotel – tucked away off the beaten track – and yet still in the middle of everything.  How is that possible you ask?  Because it’s London!  We’re talking about the Hotel Stafford which – although technically in St. James – is close enough to a Hotel Mayfair London to include it there.

You’re going to LOVE the Stafford.  Tucked away off St. James’ on St. James Place, it was originally a private home back in the 17th Century until the late 1800′s.  It was owned then by Lady Lyttleton who was the daughter of the Earl Spencer.  She sold the hotel when she became the nanny to Queen Victoria’s children.  It has developed over the years as a fine, small luxury hotel.

LON_STFF-dngrm-3During World War II, the hotel Stafford served American and Canadian officers and even hosted men and women from the French Resistance!  During the 1930′s the hotel named its bar, “The American Bar” to try and entice the burgeoning crowd coming over from the other side of the pond.  At some point, people began offering up tokens to the Bar in the way of all manner of things – football helmets (yes American ones), yacht flags, pictures, all sorts of things – they are displayed everywhere in the American Grill to amuse you.  They even have drinking glasses from various members of the Royal Family.  Oh – and another thing — the American Grill has THE BEST American Cheeseburger and fries in town!  They serve all their pub meals on a lap tray to add to an informal atmosphere – but just remember – this is England and in this bar, men are required to wear a coat (and please don’t call it a jacket – the Brits hate that and say that only potatoes have jackets!).

This luxury hotel london has 105 rooms and suites – which when you pull up to the entrance you’ll wonder where they are as it looks very small.  In fact, the hotel has expanded from the inclusion of other homes over the years and even encompasses what was once a carriage house.  All of the rooms and suites are tasteful, traditional and comfortable and done in a country-manor  English style.  The Carriage House rooms have private entrances from the courtyard and are said to contain the original beams from old ships in the 1700′s.

The categories of rooms on offer at the Stafford are:

There is also a gym, full dining room, and a sitting room which serves a fantastic tea.  It’s close to everything and walking distrance to practically everything.  Green Park tube stop on the Picadilly line is a stone’s throw away.  In fact this hotel Mayfair London is right on Green Park where you can go out and have a leisurely stroll.
Rated 5 stars, you’ll find a rate calendar on Hotels.com
(who will also guarantee you the best possible rate) with the best prices mid week.  If you can plan ahead, you should be able to negotiate a rate or at least get a moderate price.  The same is true for last minute.  But this is a very popular 5 star hotel London – especially with Americans – and you should plan to pay 5-star prices.  Is it worth it?  Absolutely!
